“you learned english?” “just in cases…”

So the roommate and I are having a lounge day of healing the ankle for real and watching as many chick flicks as we can stomach. We both agreed that Nights in Rodanthe is perhaps one of the worst films ever made (you’re saying…well, what were we expecting? It was a Nicholas Sparks novel. And we say, um, touche?) but JESUS I could watch Love Actually a hundred times over and never get sick of it. Each time, I sob with joy at the end. If you don’t agree with me, I say you don’t have a soul. I will argue with you about this. I mean, look at Karl (aka Rodrigo Santoro):

If nothing else, you should love Love Actually for Karl.

And wise observation of the day, courtesy of the roomie: Every Nicholas Sparks movie can end with a person walking on the beach wearing a cable-knit sweater.

Haha thank you viktoryian…I couldn’t agree more.

waaaait a minute.. does this mean you don’t like the Notebook? because I am pretty sure that I watched it with my parents for their first time, and probably my 27th) last week and cried for the last 4 solid minutes of the movie and about 32 minutes thereafter. therefore, in my opinion, constituting a great movie.

Well, Potter might agree with you. But I will confess: I didn’t love The Notebook. In fact, when I first saw it, I didn’t even like it. I mean, I’m a girl who sobs at EVERYTHING…crappy teevee shows, commercials, cute old men on the bus, random songs…you name it. And when I saw The Notebook, I not only didn’t sob; I barely cried. The crier was dry-eyed and surrounded by a bunch of sobbing women. I just didn’t get it. I can’t explain it…it might be because it was so built up that I was expecting more. I saw it again kind of recently, and I liked it more, but I still didn’t love it. I don’t know. Forgive me, Notebook lovers of the world.

  5. Oh come on, Mallory. Even I cried. And before that the only movie that made me cry was Babe.

Whatever, people. The Notebook is overrated. Still, I will not fault you for loving it, considering the fact that I could wake up at the sad part of a movie like Armaggedon and immediately begin sobbing.

A few notes. First, did you know that hot Karl was on Lost for a day or two?? Totally reason enough to watch that terrible show that I have become inexplicably addicted to. Secondly, Love Actually comes on fairly regularly in Argentina, and even if it’s dubbed, I without fail watch it every single time. You don’t even need the words to make that movie great. Finally, Mal, the first time I watched The Notebook, I didn’t cry even a little bit, PLUS I was (and, to an extent, remain) really annoyed at my erstwhile boyfriend for crying like a baby. We weren’t even alone! Anyway, the point of that rant is that I then watched it for the second time in the past few months and sobbed enough to have created about one million true cry faces. Maybe you need to give yourself another chance at sadness.

Oh, actually, that wasn’t the last one. This is: I can’t defend the actual film Nights in Rodanthe, BUT there is absolutely no denying Diane Lane’s timeless beauty. I would sit through the worst movie in the entire world if it meant watching her face for hours on end.

Oh, and just because I cried at The Notebook does not mean that I thought it was a good movie. I didn’t have a chance to pass judgment because I was so focused on mopping up the disgusting mess I had become.

Beef? Come back into my life NOW.

first, you are not human if you do not cry to the notebook. i sobbed even more hysterically the second time i watched it (freshmen year with rosenthal and porter on the top bunk). this movie comes third in my all-time cry list falling behind titanic and life is beautiful.

second, rodrigo santoro is gorgeous but the fact that he could also be the actor that played Xerxes in 300 is a little unnerving. observe:

    …and that’s actually all i’ve got.

Alicia, thanks a LOT. That is one of the creepiest pictures I’ve ever seen. It doesn’t look like him, so I refuse to believe it IS him. Fair?

Sorry about The Notebook, OKAY?! Someone forgot to implant my girl gene when it comes to that movie.

Notebook? I cried more when the guy checked his Toshiba Notebook on that plane…

I guess I didn’t get it either… I think I was offended by the “big love” guy making the girl lie down in the middle of the road – wooo how daring! ?… falling in love with a maniacle dreamer does not sit well with me, since having done so too many times in life.. so: color me scarred…

Love Actually? I loved it, actually.

    Rodrigo? love him, actually.
