kate gosselin has a new hairdo!

Holy hairdo! Kate Gosselin’s got a new ‘do, and it’s…pretty:

Right? I mean, it’s all extensions, which freaks me out, but it’s DECIDEDLY better than the last styles she was rockin’. Apparently Kate also has a new man to go along with her long hair. Go Kate!, I think.

I’m still somewhat torn about all of this. It has been well-documented that I have lurved J&K+8 for a while now, to the point of delusion about their “perfect” relationship (ahem), but I can’t help but think that they REALLY were happy for a while there. At this point I feel bad for everyone involved, because I don’t think either Jon or Kate went into this with any malicious goals (or aspirations to ruin their own lives) in mind. It seems more realistic that their celebrity surprised them and then got out of control, as tends to happen with, oh, every celebrity.

There will always be a soft spot in my heart for the Jon and Kate crew, especially as long as the kids continue to look like this:

jon and kate are officially dunzo.

jon_and_kate1236354668

At just 13 minutes in to the special announcement episode, watching Jon and Kate together is painful.

The kids are still incredibly adorable, as always. In this episode, they get Crooked Houses. I would have given up all of my American Girl dolls for one of these. They are amazing. I tried to go to the Web site, but I suppose everyone had that great idea. So it’s not working. Crooked Houses just got the Jon and Kate Plus 8 bump. Look at these, aren’t they just whimsically wonderful?

Kids-Crooked-HousesOddly enough, each kid was wearing one a Crooked House t-shirt. Can you believe that?! How convenient.

Okay, enough about the houses. That’s not what you care about anyway. After 35 minutes of saying how bad things are, they finally just said it. They are separating. They filed their divorce papers today. The interviews are really devastating, actually. Kate doesn’t want to be alone and she’s talking about how her children are going to be statistics with separated parents. Jon just seems lost. But the show must go on. The show will continue, but with Jon and Kate filming separate segments with the children.

No footage of them telling the children, but I think that’s for the best.

Will you keep watching? Is the charm gone?

kate gosselin shows off her stomach.

America’s obsession with the Gosselins is getting ridiculous.  Today, one of the top Googled searches is for Kate Gosselin in a bikini and these pictures are flying around the Interwebs like craaaaaaaaazy.  Normally, I’d be a little weirded out by that kind of Google search (because it’s usually done by pervy dudes who live in their parents’ basement).  But this one, I kind of get.  I mean, the lady has had eight kids.  Sick curiousity makes you want to look.  By the way, TMZ calls her haircut the reverse mullet.  Agreed.  I HATE IT.

Here is what she looked like preggo and before she became a teevee MOMster:

So here is what she looks like, five years later, in a bikini:

Ah the wonders of a tummy tuck and a personal trainer.  I’ll admit it, she is a pretty sassy mama of eight.  Minus the HIDEOUS hair and attitude.  Kate Gosselin, I give you the obligatory RAWR.

jon, minus kate and 8, cheats.

jon-and-kate-gosselinSCROLL DOWN FOR STORY UPDATES

I just read some devastating, but kind of unsurprising, news.  Jon Gosselin of “Jon and Kate Plus 8” definitely cheated on Kate.  US Weekly has the whole story, which includes pictures.  The other woman is Deanna Hummel, a 23-year-old third grade teacher.  Her brother, Jason, lives with her and that’s why he can give all the juicy details.  And in case you’re wondering, he’s just trying to protect his sister, not get publicity for himself or somehow finagle money out of this.  Of course.

In fact, he’s trying to protect her so much that he takes away all of her privacy and any of her dignity with this gem of a quote:

A lot of the time, it was pretty, um, gross listening to her, you know, um — how do I say this? The walls are thin. Let’s just say that. I mean, no one wants to hear his sister having sex, let alone with a married dude who’s, like, almost twice her age and who has eight kids and a maybe-crazy wife. Ick. Nast.

Ick? Nast?  Gross.  I don’t really want to talk about the content of that quote, but I am obligated to point out that Jon isn’t “like, almost twice her age.”  He’s 32, and she’s 23.  He’s 14 years short of being twice her age.  Just sayin’.

This whole thing is a mess.

Two weeks ago, when pictures surfaced of Jon in a car with “the mystery woman” (it was Deanna) leaving a club, he made this statement.

“I went to Legends to speak to the owner.  A friend of mine wanted to check out my car, so I let her drive it to her car,” he says. “Yes, I have female friends — but that is all she is. I’m not going to end my friendships just because I’m on TV.”

Now Jon, that was stupid.  Kate is going to hit you extra hard now when you’re sitting in that big chair talking about your day and the lessons you learned.  Kate doesn’t like it when the kids lie, I doubt she’ll be very kind to you.

I wonder what TLC is going to do.  They said “no comment” on the story last time.   It’s all awful, and despite me thinking that Kate is really mean to Jon, there is no justification for his actions.  He doesn’t get a pass.  He has eight children under the age of seven.  What on earth was he thinking?  Did he think that nobody would recognize him?

I’m sad for the family, and most of all the children.  One of the things the Gosselin’s show was praised for is how “real” it is.  And we, their audience, really liked that.  Well, the scenes with the kids are real.  But the family dynamic is larger than just the day to day silliness of the kids.

Will this change the way you see the show?

Oh, and Aaden, if things get too tough at home, you can come live with me and Mallory.  We’ll raise you.  And get you a cuter pair of glasses.

UPDATED!

Here are the statements from Deanna Hummel and Jon Gosselin from People magazine:

“My brother is making this all up,” Hummel tells PEOPLE. “He has no credibility … I can’t even stomach the lies he’s saying about me.”  Hummel continues to deny any sort of romantic relationship with Gosselin, and the elementary school teacher admits that there’s been bad blood between her and her brother for a while now. “My brother is very shady,” says Hummel. “He has no job. He has a criminal background. He was charged for drug distribution. He’s on probation right now.”

“These allegations are false and just plain hurtful,” Gosselin says in a statement exclusively to PEOPLE. “As I adjust to the attention that comes from being in the public eye, I need to be more careful and aware of who I am associating with and where I am spending my time. But the bottom line is, I did not cheat on Kate.

And the plot thickens!

Here are the pictures.  Who do you believe?

oh joy! the 18th bundle arrives.

We all have hobbies.  I like to think of mine as travel (because that sounds cool), but it’s probably reading US Weekly and the Huffington Post nonstop.  For Jim Bob Duggar and his wife, Michelle, I would venture to say that their hobby is having babies.  The Duggars just welcomed their 18th child into their crazy world.  Little Jordyn-Grace Makiya was born on December 19. Now I love babies.  I coo at every one I see.  I love the little clothes, the little shoes, etc.  Perhaps I’ll have one or two in my lifetime.  But my god, the thought of 18 babies WITH NO INTENTION OF STOPPING makes me a little queasy.  Yes, Jim Bob told the press “We both would love to have more”.  Sure, buddy.  Michelle Duggar has been having children for over 20 years.  And as if it couldn’t get any more bizarre, here are their names and ages.

Joshua, 20

Jana, 18

John-David, 18

Jill, 17

Jessa, 16

Jinger, 14

Joseph, 13

Josiah, 12

Joy-Anna, 11

Jeremiah, 9

Jedidiah, 9

Jason, 8

James, 7

Justin, 6

Jackson, 4

Johannah, 3

Jennifer, 1

Jordyn-Grace, 0

ALL J NAMES?  WHY WHY WHY? (Ginger with a J? Seriously?)  You could probably guess this by the freakshow nature and all the babies, but the Duggars have their own show on TLC.  It’s called ‘Seventeen and Counting’.  That’s original.  But will they have to change the name now?  This family seems a little strange.  I’ll take ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8’ anyday.  They are awesome.

wonder if the olsens had trouble…

I’ve written before about how the college admissions process mystifies me. I also don’t often understand employment decisions, or acceptances into all sorts of programs (Teach For America, for instance). In each situation, someone has to make a decision based on relatively little information, and they must choose from among many, many applicants or candidates. It’s always sort of a fluke. It’s a hard job, and I certainly wouldn’t want to do it.

I found this article in today’s New York Times very interesting. Called “Is There a Better Half,” it talks about the unique challenges that twins and triplets face when applying to college. On top of considering whether or not they want to be together, or at least geographically close, they also have to consider how being a twin or a triplet will affect their applications when applying to the same school:

“Other people were applying to Harvard from our school,” Olivia [one of a set of triplets] explains, “and it’s not like Harvard was going to take five people. Sometimes it only takes one or two. I knew colleges place this huge emphasis on geographical diversity. So were they really going to take two people from the exact same household?”

Eek. Applying to college is hard enough as it is; I wouldn’t want any other factors complicating the process. (Thing about the agony that the Gosselins will go through!) Take a look at the article, then grab a frosty beverage and head outside, as I plan to do riiiiiight now.

swf looking for quarter asian sextuplets.

This week I’ve been working evenings as a receptionist, which makes for a pretty boring job because no one calls corporate offices at night. As long as I answer the phones, I’m allowed to play on the internet (read: blog), watch TV, and read. Last night, once most people were gone from the office, I put on the show that has become my summertime obsession: Jon and Kate Plus 8. For those of you who are missing out on this brilliant show, let me give a brief synopsis: Two perfect people named Jon and Kate got married, couldn’t get pregnant on their own, and turned to fertility treatments for help. They had twin girls, and luckily one of them is nice. Then Jon and Kate wanted one more baby, but they accidentally had six at once, all of whom are perfect and adorable little biracial children. The show is about nothing more than their daily life, but somehow it is absolutely riveting. You can find a marathon on TLC pretty much every day. My sister got me hooked during a marathon back at the beginning of the summer, and I’m officially addicted. For a while, I was embarrassed about this addiction, but I’ve discovered that pretty much everyone secretly loves the show. I was most comforted to learn that my friend’s 26-year-old boyfriend and his roommates watch it whenever they can.

The point is, I love Jon and Kate. That’s why last night, when the head security guy at my work tried to tell me that Jon and Kate are bad parents, I took serious personal offense. I think that the Jon and Kate Debate of ’08 (don’t judge me, I’m really bored) got me even angrier than the heated two-hour political discussion that followed it. (A sample: Him: “Ohh I guess you’re one of those people who believes in global warming…” Me: “Global warming is not Santa Claus! It’s not the notion that Jesus rose from the dead! It’s not something you BELIEVE in, it’s scientific fact!”) I won’t go into any more details, but let the record show that the Gosselins deserve to be sainted, the show is genius, and I currently plotting to kidnap Aaden. Also, I might have to marry an Asian man so that my kids look like that. To put ourselves in an even better mood leading into this three-day weekend, let’s look at more pictures of my favorite TV family:

Aaden, come with me. I have candy.

Eeee!!

Aaden, come with me. I have candy.

P.S. Kathleen says she is going to write a post about how Jon and Kate don’t love each other. But don’t listen to her. She’s lying and she doesn’t know what she’s talking about. Jon and Kate are perfect.
