boston train almost hits drunken woman.

This video is just plain terrifying.  The completely plastered woman in the video stumbles off a Boston train platform and falls onto the tracks.  Being too drunk to process that she is in extreme danger, she just lies there.  Passerbys on the platform wave frantically to the incoming train, because the conductor can’t see that the woman has fallen.  The conductor can tell something is seriously wrong and puts the brakes on early.  The train stops literally on top of the woman, but miraculously doesn’t hit her.

When interviewed, the train conductor said she didn’t do anything heroic – just that she followed emergency procedure.  While she couldn’t tell exactly what was wrong, she sensed it was something serious by the way the people on the platform were attempting to signal her and how they were standing so far beyond the yellow line.  I wonder if this brush with death will inspire drunk lady to lay off the sauce.

we hope. we despair. we hope.

If you are fed up with federal politics and just need some new faith in government (or want to see something clever and aesthetically pleasing), read this:

dwight schrute as a pumpkin? yippee!

Happy almost Halloween everyone!  I’m enjoying Halloween more and more every year as I get older.  I love the creative costumes and the ghoulish goodies.

This year is a bonus because we actually have plans ahead of time…quite out of the ordinary.  Pictures to follow on November 1st.

Arguably, my favorite Halloween tradition is carving pumpkins, but I must admit that my own personal pumpkins rarely extend past triangle eyes, a triangle nose and triangle fangs.

Here are some of my favorite, slightly more impressive, carved pumpkins.

youtube clip of today: fun theory.

Oh huzzah, huzzah!  It’s Friday!  My heart is singing because I have been dreaming about sweatpants all day long and I can now see a light at the end of the long 9-5 tunnel.  But that has nothing to do with today’s YouTube clip of the day.  Silly me.

I love this video.  This should be unsurprising because I genuinely wish that my life was a lighthearted musical.  Things like flash mob dances and giant sing-alongs give me hope.  Sigh.  Anyway, I think these people are on to something.  There are two more videos from The Fun Theory, which is run by Volkswagen.  Das most clever!

Have a wonderful weekend, y’all!

halloween costumes, testosterone and iphone reps.

It’s almost Halloween, one of my favorite holidays, and I am freaking out because I have absolutely no idea what I want to be.  I feel like this year needs to be particularly good, since I was so entrenched in the campaign last year I didn’t even realize it was Halloween. Somebody call the wahhhhhmbulance.

Anyway, my beloved HuffPo has posted some hilariously adorable costumes for babies.  Perhaps I’ll just take one of the ideas and adjust it a bit.  I’m thinking the WALL-E costume would be super cute in my size.  No?  Okay.  I always forget that Halloween means I’m supposed to dress skanky.

Speaking of last year’s election (Yes, yes, I KNOW that’s it’s almost been a year since the election, but this study just came out!) this news story kind of sucks for our male McCain voting readership. I have a feeling that demographic isn’t very high on this blog, but we are committed to reporting the strangest news to ALL of our readership.

According to a story from ABC news:

Republican men nationwide may have experienced a drop in testosterone levels the night Barack Obama was elected president, according to the results of a small study that found another link between testosterone and men’s moods.

But don’t worry boys, I’m sure you’ve gotten it back. I meant the testosterone.  Not the election.  Love you!

In case you’ve been living under a rock, here are some Youtube videos that you should have seen by now:

Teehee, it’s a drunk guy.  And this one:

Cleverness abounds in the Democratic party! HUZZAH!

And ONE MORE THING.  My friend over at Herding Scapegoats has been writing again.  You should probably check it out.  He is providing a rare look into the male psyche, addressing serious things like male jealousy and pooping.

here, read a quote i love.

“We are at the very beginning of time for the human race. It is not unreasonable that we grapple with problems. But there are tens of thousands of years in the future. Our responsibility is to do what we can, learn what we can, improve the solutions, and pass them on.” [Richard Feynman]

i’m back again. not joking. really.

isowwyibe128596658335058668

Hi, remember me?  Yeah, it’s been awhile.  Sowwy.

Lots of things have contributed to my lack of posting (turns out I had swine flu!), but no need to dwell on the past (oink, oink).  To the future!

There have been SO MANY THINGS I have wanted to post about, and my wonderful friends continue to send me quirky things on the interwebs that they know I will adore– like this video from my friend Laura.  I think I’ve watched it five times.

AMAZING.

Or this Web site, www.peopleofwalmart.com, which has been sent to me by faithful readers Miguel and Civil War Dave.

These times are crazier than ever.  Jon and Kate do nothing but fight, Fox News’ Shep Smith is starting to sound like a socialist fascist communist Democrat, the Republicans are threatening to teabag the American people and Jessica Simpson’s dog was eaten by a coyote!  Yikes! Those are clearly the most important things going on in the world today.

And as if life in general wasn’t dangerous enough, Alexander McQueen has decided to introduce TEN INCH high heels to the world:

Grosssssss.  I don’t know, but something about them reminds me of giraffe hooves (I’m a nature girl), which is oddly appropriate.  There are more, you can see them here.

But hey, at least one thing is right in this world.  Jim and Pam are getting hitched tonight! RAWR!

today is a google holiday, hooray!

Two people tipped me off to today’s Google Holiday (thanks, Amelia and Kels!), which has caused people the world ’round to be all “Uhhhh is my computer broken?” But don’t worry, people, your computer isn’t broken! It’s just Google being its wacky self. Let me share the email I received as my second tip this morning:

I realized after I typed this gem [pictured below] in that today is a google holiday! I was actually a little concerned because I just thought that it was my computer being broken. Also, you might wonder, gosh, why was Kelsey googling “mase, money, anus”? And the answer to that is that I am an embarassingly white girl who is completely out of touch with American pop culture, so I didn’t understand a lot of this website. Now I do though!

Ladies and gentlemen, meet my best friend from home! You probably should go to that website, just to understand why Kelsey’s search makes sense, and also because it’s entertaining.

Today’s Google Holiday: Invention of the Bar Code. Today marks the 57th anniversary of the first bar code patent. And guys, we should celebrate, because how else could we buy Cheetos with such ease? Here, read more. (And also maybe let me know how it’s possible that Wikipedia updates things the second they happen. It already knows about today’s Google Holiday…cah-raaaazy.)

What Kelsey was Googling: mase, money, anus

peeking out from underneath grad school.

girl_crying

Let’s play Guess How Many Times Mallory Cried Today. Any guesses? It’s pretty low so far, but it’s not even 5:00 yet. First, I cried during a retirement party at work for a woman I don’t even know that well. But she gave such a kind and wonderful speech and so of course I cried. And of course I was sitting directly next to where she was standing, so I was in all of the pictures. And of course my co-worker looked at me at the end and said, “Are you crying?” And he obviously doesn’t know me well enough yet because the answer is always yes, yes I am crying. Then also, I watched the video on this post. I love M79 and I love mommy bloggers (whatever, it’s true) and I love adorable blonde-headed children, so there were tears here too. It’s okay. I’m sensitive. I embrace it.

Kathleen and I have been such bad bloggers lately, we know. But what do you do when you run out of time to blog as much as you want? Quit? Hell no! Endure the anger of your friends and constantly feel guilty? Well, I guess so. That’s what’s going on for now. We love us our little blog, and I guess that means that infrequent posting is better than no blog at all. I don’t want this to be permanent, but grad school is hard this year. I’m having one of those drowning-in-my-own-life moments. But hopefully it will pass, and then maybe you people can stop reading whatever other lame blogs you read when ours isn’t hoppin’, and all will be right in the world. In the meantime, thanks for bearing with us!
