youtube clip of today: boy gaga.

I came across this video while creeping around the internet late last night and I was more than impressed.  I’m not the only one, our delightful friend over at Art of the Record thought so too. Don’t be fooled by his Bieber hair, this kid is AWESOME. He’s better than the Biebs. His Youtube name is greyson97 (wait… was he born in 1997?! Oh my god.). Somebody get this kid a record contract!

youtube clip of today: super brontës!

Happy Monday, readership! To kick off your work week, here’s a fake TV commercial from 1998.  According to its creators, it was “made in 1998 for a series of educational shorts about action figures based on historical figures. Its educational value was somewhat suspect. It was never aired.” Bummer. Best part? THE BRONTESAURUS! RAWR!

As a side note, I know a girl from Massachusetts that would have given ANYTHING to have these dolls growing up…

you deserve a real nice guy!

Pandora (thank you, technology!) introduced me to this song. I enjoy the song, but even more than that I love that the lyrics are so dead-on. It’s both sad and hilarious, because we’ve all been there. (And if you haven’t been there, kindly get out of my life. I never liked you anyway.)

“We Get On,” Kate Nash

Simply knowing you exist ain’t good enough for me
But asking for your telephone number
Seems highly inappropriate
Seeing as, I can’t
Even say hi
When you walk by

And that time you shook my hand, it felt so nice
I swear I never feel this way about any other guy
And I never usually notice people’s eyes, but

I conducted a plan to bump in to you most accidentally
But I was walking along and I bumped into you
Much more heavily than I’d originally planned
It was, well, embarrassing
And I think you thought that I was a bit of a twat

I just think that we’d get on
I wish I could tell you face to face
Instead of singing this stupid song
But yeah, I just think that we might get on

So I went to that party and everyone
They were kind of art-y
And I was wearing this dress
Because I wanted to impress
But I wasn’t sure if I looked my best
‘Cause I was so nervous
But I carried on regardless
Strutting through each room trying to find you

And when I saw you kissing that girl
My heart, it shattered
And my eyes, they watered
And when I tried to speak, I stuttered
And my friends were like “Whatever!
You’ll find someone better!
His eyes were way too close together!
And we never even liked him from the start!
And now he’s with that tart
And I heard she’s done some really nasty stuff
Down in the park with Michael
He said she’s easy
And if your guy’s with someone that’s sleazy
Then he ain’t worth your time
‘Cause you deserve a real nice guy!”
So I proceeded to get drunk and to cry
And lock myself in the toilets for the entire night

Saturday night I watched channel five
I particularly liked CSI
I don’t ever dream about you and me
I don’t ever make up stuff about you and me
Because that is insanity
I don’t ever drive by your house to see if you’re in
I don’t even have an opinion on that tramp that you’re still seeing
I don’t know your timetable
I don’t know your face off by heart
But I must admit that there is still a part of me that still thinks
That we might get on

We might get on…

Yep, sounds about right.

Love “Foundations,” too (holler HLH!). Terribly literal video, but a great song. I’m so happy that Ms. Nash’s accent actually comes out when she sings. Why can’t more people make that happen?

don’t cry, you’re making it worse.

I apologize for the unbearable lightness of blogging (see what I did there?!); it’s finals time, and apparently I have to write a few more papers in order to graduate. Lame. In the meantime, a song (and hopefully a Google Holiday post a bit later…it’s a good one!):

This is the only video I could find of this song, which struck me as odd. But then I got over it because, you know, Snoopy!

running home, running home, running home.

So I’ve been a Bon Iver fan for a while now, but ever since I posted about “Blood Bank” on Valentine’s Day, I haven’t been able to stop listening to them. Several months is a long time — at least, for me — to be on a one-band kick. And it’s not like they’re all I listen to, but I straight up cannot get enough of Justin Vernon’s voice. These days, I’m lovin’ on this a cappella version of “For Emma”:

I can’t stop myself. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. My friend’s friend — also named Justin, oddly enough — said the following about the For Emma, Forever Ago album:

“Bon Iver’s album For Emma, Forever Ago blows me away. It’s like listening to music for the very first time. So simple so sweet.”

Well said, sir.

If you’re just as obsessed as I am, you should also watch this video. It makes the whole band seem a little more real, in a cool way. Like, yeah they’re so talented it hurts your feelings, but they also ask each other questions like “Does your dick sing falsetto?” It’s a nice contrast.

youtube clip of today: youtube’s first.

Hey folks, ever lie in bed at night wondering what the first video EVER to be put on the YouTubes was?  No, really, have you? Well, here is your answer.  Five years ago today, Jawed Karim, one of YouTube’s founders, posted this video of himself at the San Diego Zoo.  Thanks, Jawed, for starting one of the most entertaining outlets for people to publicly embarrass themselves… or, even more likely, embarrass their friends. A tip of the hat to you, sir!  PS- Your video? BOOOOOOOOOOOORING.

Okay. So the video is pretty lame and I try to bring you entertaining yooootoooobs to make the work day go by a little faster. Here’s something cooler:

It’s not a trick, it’s an ILLUSION! Two points if you get the reference.

And on that note, I hope the next 2.5 hours fly by for you all!

today is a google holiday, hooray!

Today’s Google Holiday: Earth Day. Shocking, right?

What I was Googling: seance. It’s, um, a hard word to spell. And I may have been Googling it for reasons involving spirit animals and DVDs and shammans but you know what DON’T WORRY ABOUT IT. Instead, focus on the fact that the following video just broke my heart into a million pieces:

As if I wasn’t already completely and totally obsessed with pugs, someone comes along and makes a video about an environmentally-friendly pug. And then I swoon, and try to again figure out how a pug could live in my shoebox-sized apartment when I’m about to start a job that will require a lot of travel. The world is so cruel, but I have faith that Jeff (my future pug, duh) and I will be together one day. Until then, thank god for videos of pug puppies on YouTube.

youtube clip(s) of the day: opposite extremes.

You’re getting two for one today, folks. HOW EXCITED ARE YOU??!

First, via a budding lawyer friend, yet another video that proves that drunk people will never not be entertaining:

(I think the moral of the story here is that you should wear full-on shoes to Coachella.)

And going to another extreme, a real-life lawyer friend we’ll call LRB showed me this gem yesterday, proving that little kids will also never not be entertaining:

Best part: “CHOCOLATEEEEEE!!!!!” I have a feeling I’ll end up with a child just like that.

If you ever find good stuff (videos or otherwise) that must be shared with the world, feel free to send it our way at sixwordstochangetheworld@gmail.com.
