that’s right: hump day cry face.

I was walking home from happy (four) hour(s) tonight and happened to be checking my phone (while still totally being aware of my surroundings, and being very tall and intimidating to robbers and rapists) and I saw that I was tagged in a photo. And it was a Cry Face photo. And it’s Wednesday. And guys, it was a sign. So for this week, and hopefully for a while, I’m resurrecting Hump Day Cry Face. (I know. You don’t believe any of my promises anymore. But for at least this week, I swear I’ll stick to it.) Thanks to the Yangster, here you go:

See that? See how Cry Face ruins the whole photo? That’s power, man. And you know what else is power? Being able to get the entire cast of a teevee show to do Cry Face:

That’s right. Cry Face is officially famous. They ripped me off, but it’s okay because I finally started watching Modern Family and that shit is GOOD. (“This is my Vietnam. And I was IN Vietnam.”)

In other news, I got the mail just now and happened to notice that the latest issue of Health (which my mother sends me, thankyouverymuch) has Hilary Duff on the cover. HILARY DUFF! She was famous like ten years ago for Lizzie McGuire — a totally awesome show, clearly — and has been riding that wave ever since. It’s all very confusing for me, and that means it’s time for me to get in bed.

Goodnight, children…we have a few things in the pipeline, so don’t give up on us yet!

run away fast as you can.

"I win, because I WIN." (Big Daddy? Anyone?)

Okay, so I’m 24 hours late on this — criminal in the world of social media — but can we talk about the VMAs for a second? And can we talk about how fah-reaking awkward Taylor Swift’s performance was? I want so, so badly to be Team Taylor. (After all, last year at this time I proclaimed myself FIRMLY on her side.) Kanye was a douche last year, no question, and I certainly still can (and often do) belt the lyrics of a Taylor Swift song as loudly and proudly as the average nine year old. But the girl needs to learn how to perform live, and she needs to get over the Kanye thing. If she hadn’t performed that horrible emo ballad that I’ll probably grow to love, she would have come out on top. She’d have been the bigger person. Instead, she gave us all the impression that she spent a year channeling her rage into a single song that she hoped would blow the world away last night. And sadly, it was a huge misfire. No one cared, and then Kanye came onstage and sang an awesomely tongue-in-cheek (I think?) song that I already have stuck in my head. Round two goes to the douchebag.

T.Swift, please pull yourself together. It’s starting to get embarrassing to publicly support you.

youtube clip of today: teeth, live.

Yesterday, Lady Gaga performed “Teeth” (among other songs) live on The Today Show. As you might expect, she was phenomenal. I hope she never ever stops performing:

Thanks to E.Lee (of course) for finding this first.

a whole post on comic sans.

Just as Kathleen has been hesitant to give LiLo press she doesn’t deserve, I know that I shouldn’t humor Comic Sans with frequent posts about it. But I can’t help it. The past few days I’ve gotten a couple of bloggy tips related to Comic Sans, and I knew you all would want to hear about them.

First, Kathleen posted a video on my Facebook wall in which the creator of Comic Sans discusses the history of the infamous font. It’s cool to get the backstory, though I can’t say it makes me hate the font any less:

And perhaps more entertaining (no offense, Kathleeny) is a tip from our A-MAZING, FAN-TASTIC Chicago correspondent. As you might have heard somewhere on the news or the interwebs or the Twitter, LeBron James just announced his decision to play with the Miami Heat, and people are getting crazy about it. (Full disclosure: I don’t actually care. Although I did find this article on James’ move pretty interesting.) What I’m getting crazy about is the fact that Cavs’ owner Dan Gilbert posted a rant on NBA.com about James’ departure and decided to write it in Comic Sans. CNN’s John Sutter echoes my thoughts perfectly:

After Gilbert posted a rant — in the cutesy Comic Sans typeface — about James’ departure on NBA.com, bloggers, newspaper writers and Twitter pundits lashed back with a collective message that essentially said this:

Unless you’re a fourth-grader, or being ironic, or the author of a comic book, or on vacation from the 1990s, never use that typeface.

And they’re right! If you want to be taken seriously in a professional forum, do not use a bullshit font! Would you use Papyrus on your resume? Kristen ITC on your campaign signs? (Well, Sarah Palin might.) In the world of normal, the answer is a definitive no. So why would you use Comic Freaking Sans for the most public document you’ll ever write? And why wouldn’t you have some intern proofread your tirade for excessive use of Caps Lock and unnecessary quotation marks?  (See for yourselves. It’s bad.) We can only assume poor Gilbert was blinded by grief, and for that, our thoughts go out to him.

youtube clip of today: double rainbow.

Can you imagine having this much enthusiasm about a rainbow? Amazing. And hilarious. Best line: What does this mean!? If I didn’t know any better, I’d say it was a Will Ferrell sketch.

Enjoy! And happy Thursday, readership!

lohan claims a human rights violation.

Oh, LiLo. A few people have passed this my way already this morning. Lindsay is now saying the “f*** u” written on her fingernail was a just a joke, and it had nothing to do with her court appearance. It is almost unbelievable, at this point, that she isn’t smart enough to realize that she is under a microscope and something like that would be seen. Anyway, the Lohan believes all of this criticism is unfair, and that she has been subjected to cruelty, so she took to her Twitter account to clear things up.

She essentially claimed that her human rights had been violated, and tweeted Article 5 of the U.N. Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Yes, really.

No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

And then she quotes law professor Erik Luna:

“November 1 marked the 15th anniversary of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines. But there were no celebrations, parades, or other festivities in honor of this punishment scheme created by Congress and the U.S. Sentencing Commission… Instead, the day passed like most others during the last 15 years: Scores of federal defendants sentenced under a constitutionally perverted system that saps moral judgment through its mechanical rules.”

Well, we all know she’s wrong. And I have a smarty-pants friend that made logical points to counter Lindsay’s rambling:

a.  She’s referring to the wrong body of law- this is a GA assembly resolution- the universal declaration of human rights is not binding to the US.
b. The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights is binding to the US.
c. Our own constitution protects against cruel and unusual punishment.

Celebrities! Who would we mock without them?

After that, she posted a link to the Newsweek story on Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, an Iranian woman who will be stoned to death for adultery. Let’s all hope she isn’t comparing her situation to that human rights tragedy.

But in all honesty, I find it sad that LiLo’s delusional enough to think that she doesn’t deserve to abide by the court’s rules like the rest of us. Maybe this whole experience will do the girl some good. (But that’s been said before, right?)
