meet henry allingham, world’s oldest man.

Here he is, looking adorable and drinking a glass of the bubbly on his 113th birthday!

Henry Allingham turned 113 earlier this month, clinching the Guinness World Records title of World’s Oldest Man.  The picture is of him on his 113th birthday, celebrating with a bit of the bubbly.  Mr. Allingham, who has lived in three centuries, is also one of two surviving veterans of  World War I left in the UK.  Click here to read about his amazing life.  I like this quote:

His experiences, and the sights he saw at the third Battle of Ypres, ensured that his youthful enthusiasm was replaced by an undying passion for peace. “War’s stupid,” he told the BBC. “Nobody wins. You might as well talk first, you have to talk last anyway.”

After finding out he was the World’s Oldest Man, his caretakers said he returned to bed after breakfast.

Awww.  When I’m that age, I’ll go back to bed after breakfast too.  While he is not the oldest person to ever live, he is surely something special.  Here’s to 114, Henry!  Cheers!

meester sex tape: life imitates art?

leighton-meester-photos

Oh boy, here we go.

So after many months of wondering what this whole Google Reader thing was, I decided to set up my page. For good measure, I threw in a bundle of celebrity news sites. And what a day for celebrity news! In case your Google Reader isn’t set up yet, or you don’t stalk celeb blogs, guess what?! Leighton Meester, best known as Gossip Girl‘s Blair Waldorf, has a sex tape. And it’s not with Chuck Bass. According to Perez and the Superficial and Pink is the New Blog and all of our faithful celeb bloggers, a couple-year-old sex tape of Leighton Meester is allegedly available online. My office computer is blocking most of the links, but it appears that this is pretty legit. Feel free to try to investigate a little more yourself. The Superficial has photos, and Tyler Durden’s linking to something, but I can’t even access his blog because it’s adult content. Ha.

I mean, I suppose something scandalous like this was bound to happen with someone from the GG cast. My typical frustration with stuff like this — and especially with stars who get all riled up when something scandalous is released — is, “If you are even moderately famous, why would you even consider making a sex tape of any kind? It WILL get out. So if you make one, be prepared for it to go viral. That’s just the way it works.” But with Ms. Meester, I almost feel sorry for her. She appears to have made this thing way before she was famous, and now it’s going to become this huge scandal and her grandma will think she’s a whore, or something. She couldn’t really have seen that coming. (That’s what she said?)

We here at SWTCTW still love you, B!

kimberley vlaminck stars in “star face”.

I hope you thought my post title was as clever as I did. Anyway, this story broke a few days ago, but I’ve been DYING to share it with you. So meet Kimberley Vlaminck.

article-1193384-056169CF000005DC-425_634x561

Yes, those are star tattoos on her face. Fifty-six, to be exact. According to the 18-year-old Belgian though, she only asked for three but the tattoo artist didn’t understand her. She then says she “fell asleep” and woke up like that. Well, I don’t have any tattoos, but from what I’ve heard they hurt. A lot. I can’t really see someone falling asleep while a needle was poking ink into the skin on their face. Call me crazy. The tattoo artist, Rouslan Toumaniantz, says that she did indeed ask for that and that she was awake the entire time. Want to see what Mr. Toumaniantz looks like? I thought so:

Rawr? Ha. Wowie. I mean, really, she should not be THAT surprised if she is telling the truth (but I doubt it). Despite an eye witness saying that Kimberley did in fact ask for 56 stars, Rouslan is being a nice guy and offering to pay for half of the removal, which would cost roughly$14,000. The cost of the original tattoo? About $90. Learning from other people’s mistakes? Priceless.

So there is your SWTCTW life lesson of the day. Whose side are you on?

youtube clip of today: thug story.

Apparently it’s Taylor Swift week here at SWTCTW. My sister — who certainly takes the cake for being the most diehard T. Swift fan in the family — just passed along this video, with this added commentary: “SHE CAN DO EVERYTHING. I love her love her, and ‘On a Boat’ is my new favorite song, could it get any better?”

No, dear sister, it probably couldn’t:

I’ve gotta say, my respect for the venerable T. Swift went up quite a bit after I saw this, much like my respect for Justin Timberlake (and T-Pain, now that you mention it) skyrocked after their SNL appearances. Who doesn’t love famous people who are willing to mock themselves?

love story meets viva la vida.

Say what you will about Taylor Swift (and I’ll say this: I unabashedly love her), but this arrangement is absolutely gorgeous. You have to watch until the end, where the composer talks about his daughter and how he arranged the piece for her. Even Kathleen teared up:

youtube clip of today: hammer pants.

Yes I’ve posted videos like this before.  Yes, I’m obsessed with random dance routines in awkward public places, what of it?  It’s hilarious!  And that old man is really breaking it down.  Does anybody want to start the DC Hammer Pants Dance brigade?

miami cats are now safe again.

He looks normal, but he's sick.

He looks normal, but he's sick.

The cats of Miami can peacefully take cat naps again, now that 18-year-old cat killer suspect Tyler Haines Weinman has been caught.  Weinman was arrested and charged for the 19 serial cat killings that have been plaguing the area.  What’s even worse is that the cats were mutilated as well.  There have been 34 cat deaths in the area, but police were only allowed to connect 19 to serial killings.  They are looking into the matter to see if there are accomplices.

I don’t even understand how a human being can do something like this.  Remember Joseph Petcka? Well I think Tyler Haines Weinman has done more than enough to  join him in the ranks of huge jerkfaces.  According to the story on CNN,  if he gets convicted on all counts, Weinman could face up to 158 years in state prison.  Think that’s a little harsh?  I don’t.  And we all know he won’t end up serving the full term anyway.

“The cruelty of these crimes were horrific for the animal victims, but there were many human victims as well,” Mayor Paul Vrooman said.

“Let’s not forget the children and the families who found their pets mutilated. These awful scenes inflicted a human toll.”

I’m glad this monster has been caught.

i like to dance all night.

kings_of_leon

I’m pretty late to joining the Kings of Leon bandwagon, but I’m totally in the front seat now. They are AMAZING. I recently read the Rolling Stone cover article about them (excerpts here), and I think they have a such an intriguing story. All related, came from a weird intensely religious background, got into music pretty late in the game, get drunk and get rowdy on a regular basis and aren’t afraid to admit it, etc. etc. Plus there’s a lot of beardage going on, and Caleb’s voice is freaking phenomenal.

One of the girls I stayed with this weekend, Ashley, has been a major Kings of Leon fan since the beginning, so we spent a solid chunk of time this weekend dancing around, drinking Coronas, and blasting their music. If I’m lucky, I’ll get to spend most of my summer continuing that trend.
